I love my chickens and ducks. However, because of chicken math, we have more eggs than we can handle. I needed a recipe that could use a lot of eggs. This pound cake can easily be breakfast, desert, or just a snack depending on the toppings. We love to put maple syrup, fruit preservers, or just butter.
"Go! Eat your bread with gladness and drink your wine with a merry heart, for God has already accepted your deeds." (Ecclesiastes 9:7 TLV)
In this chapter, the author is talking about our works on the earth and death. Whether we are righteous or wicked, everyone will die one day, and only God knows that day. When we die, we will no longer have access to the good things of this earth, things that God made for us. Therefore, the author explains, we should enjoy the good things of this earth, like food and drink, and perform good deeds to stay righteous in God's eyes. We should be well kept in our clothes and appearance (v. 8) and enjoy our time with our loved ones, like our spouses (v. 9). For when we die, earthly resources will not carry over.
The author implores us to enjoy the good and wonderful things that God has given us on this earth before we are taken away from it. However, in the entire chapter, there is a shadow of fear. We must enjoy these good things like sweet breads knowing we are God's righteous people before we die. This can easily lead to a path of blind pleasure, binging on what is good in moderation out of fear.
Ecclesiastes was written before the coming of Jesus. As such, there is no eternal life and they were judged based on their deeds alone. However, with Jesus, we are saved from the fear and doom of eternity without Him. We no longer have to fear death, for when we die, we are placed in the Heaven at the foot of God's throne. We will live in His presence and feast with Him for all of time. Therefore, we should enjoy the wonderful things that God gave to His people on the earth, but not fear death, knowing that what God has in store for us in Heaven will be far greater.
Do you know if you will go to Heaven, or are you living in fear of death? If you need Jesus, pray this prayer.
Is sickness or pain in your body ruining the good and pleasant things God has given you? Pray and believe this prayer of healing.
